How to Join

It’s simple! Just draw a comic.

  • …a comic that introduces yourself! It can be as factual or realistic as you want, just let the world know who you are as a comic artist. It should ideally fit within the standard 10×15” format, but the main constraint is that it should be in black and white. High-res scans if you’re an OG who works traditionally, please.
  • Next, include two variations of an avatar drawing representing you as an artist. Why two? Because your comic submission will be included in our annual roster of Official Collective Members and used for Our Member’s page to link to your socials. One image should be representative of your outer persona: who you present to the world. The second image (used inside of the printed roster with our biographies) should represent the chaos within. You don’t even need to draw something new if you want to just pull a portrait from your comic, just let us know which is which.
  • Write out the shortest of bios. Like, 25-60 words. Concise. And give us your website, socials, and the best way for prospective clients to reach you (ie email, phone number, smoke signal, etc.)
  • Email your comic, profile images, and information, and email it to [email protected]
  • Lastly, stay in touch! We communicate primarily on our own server in Discord, but you can also reach us on our Instagram, via email, or text (if you must). Since you’re already on our website you can reach out to us via our Contact Form, as well. Official Membership only lasts for one year, so at least come to one in-person meeting to meet the group! To be considered a member the following year: either give us permission to continue printing your introductory comic in the new roster or take this opportunity to update your comic and submit a whole new one!

Official Membership Benefits:

  • Promotion of your work across our social media
  • First dibs on merch as we create them (for now that means stickers and your own copy of the Roster that you have been featured in).
  • Being featured on our website
  • Promotion via our annual Roster and Anthology Publications.
  • We can handle the sale of a limited amount of your inventory at local conventions and festivals.
  • Access to free studio time at Little Fish Comic Book Studio on El Cajon, 6822B El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, CA 92115 every week (currently 2-6pm every Saturday).
  • 10% in store discount at Artist & Craftsman Supply San Diego, 3804 Fourth Ave, San Diego, CA 92103
  • Networking opportunities: the comics scene is overall pretty small. So we’ve run into a lot of local big wigs in the industry, and we’re always promoting our collective.
  • We’ve been working towards being at every comics related or comics-friendly event in San Diego, and sometimes the greater SoCal area. This means networking, and promotion of our talented artists.

How To Stay In The Know…

  • You can follow us on social media. We’re on Instagram (of course)
  • . . .but the best way to stay updated is to join our Discord Server!
    • We’ve been working hard at building a supportive community of working comic artists with a varied collection of art skills and expertise.
    • You’ll find out here first about Drawing Challenges, events, meetings (which anyone is welcome to), and what everyone is working on.
    • Insight on local resources for printers, art stores, etc.
    • Local gig opportunities. Local Teaching Jobs, commission opportunities, upcoming local cons and festivals for you to apply to if you want to be a vendor yourself.
  • Stay tuned for a monthly newsletter… coming soon!

💚  **Keep things PG-13.**

No NSFW or obscene content without a filter in the general chat, and must be relevant to creating artwork. Additionally, while the occasional swear is perfectly fine for expressing strong emotions (such as “this shit rules!” or “fucking pay your interns man”), running your tongue just for the sake of it is not.

💙  **Our Views and Politics at Work With Indies**

Black Lives Matter, Stop Asian Hate, Free Palestine, Trans Rights Are Human Rights, Vaccines Save Lives, and if any of these statements make you uncomfortable, this is not the server for you. We hope that one day it will be.

💜  **Let’s not forget to have fun and find enjoyment in our creativity**

Feedback on art should always strive to encourage and to empower each other. Please remember any posts in the #Comic-Critique chat means that they want feedback, because they are ready to be vulnerable with their creation. Please be positive and remember that everyone is mandated to be respectful. Receiving a critique is not the same as being judged, and should never feel as such.
